Robot Kills Man at Volkswagen Plant
Time.com - A robot crushed a worker at a Volkswagen production plant in Germany, the company said Wednesday.
A 22-year-old man was helping to put together the stationary robot that grabs and configures auto parts Monday when the machine grabbed and pushed him against a metal plate, the Associated Press reported. He later died from the injuries. Volkswagen did not release the man’s name.
A spokesperson for the car company told the Associated Press that the robot can be programmed for specific tasks and that the company believes the malfunction was due to human error.
Though the company uses some lightweight robots to work on the production line next to humans, a spokesperson told the Financial Times that this was not one of those robots. The type of robot that crushed the employee is usually kept in a cage. The man was working on the robot inside the cage when he was grabbed.
Prosecutors are still deciding whether to bring charges and whom they would pursue.

Million Dollar Rideable Robot Up for Sale Again, But Sells Out in Hours
Animenewsnetwork.com - Suidobashi Heavy Industry's rideable Kuratas was listed on Amazon on Tuesday, but deep-pocketed enthusiasts appear to have snatched them all up before the day was out. It's not confirmed if the 120 million yen (about US$1,004,402) robot starter kit actually sold, or if the item was pulled. Regardless, the Kuratas as proven immense popular with thousands of orders placed each time sale slots open up. It's worth noting that the Kuratas dropped in price since 2013, and is now 20 million yen cheaper.
Like the last time the robot showed up for sale in 2013, the starter kit doesn't include the arms. When fully assembled, the diesel-powered machine moves around on four-wheels and is big enough to fit an adult human in its cockpit. The mechas recently served as a Labor robots in Mamoru Oshii's live-action The Next Generation -Patlabor- series and film project.
This version's specs are a little larger. The Amazon listing measures the robot as weighing five tons (instead of four tons)and 3.8 meters (12.5') tall. Amazon notes that the height and weight are optional and can be changed. The new red paint job isn't bad either.
