Data roaming charges for phones to end in Europe
Theweek.co.uk - UK holidaymakers travelling to Europe will no longer face hefty bills to use the internet on their smartphones, after European authorities finally reached agreement on proposals for a single telecoms market across the continent.
Under new rules announced yesterday by the European Commission after two years of talks, "roaming" charges applied to internet use outside an individual's home country will be abolished within the European Union from June 2017.
From April next year interim measures come into force which will reduce surcharges to five cents (4p) per minute for calls or megabyte of internet data and two cents per text message, which the Commission says reduces the maximum charge by around 75 per cent compared to current caps.
That is a big difference from the current system under which, The Guardian reports, operators can charge travellers 19 cents a minute for calls, six cents per text message, and 20 cents per megabyte of data on top of their normal tariff.
The new rules also include provisions to ensure "net neutrality", which will prevent operators prioritising domestic internet traffic above overseas visitors, resulting in poor download speeds.
The BBC notes there are caveats in place that allow providers to provide higher-quality connections for specialist services such as internet television, so long as this does not compromise the overall quality of traffic for others.
Internet service providers will also be allowed to 'throttle' traffic where this is in the public interest, for example to combat the proliferation of images of child sexual abuse or in the event of a terrorist attack.
The news was generally welcomed, although some bemoaned conditions which "water down" the neutrality proposals.
Ernest Doku of uSwitch.com told website Telecoms.com that as the deal still needs to be approved by the European Parliament there remains a danger of "backtracking". He cited an earlier deal to end roaming charges by 2015, which was subsequently reversed.

Ribuan Game Lawas Bisa Dimainkan Gratis

Pandi Luncurkan Penyingkat URL "S.id"
Kompas.com - Pandi (Pengelola Domain Indonesia) meluncurkan layanan penyingkat tautan situs web (uniform resource locator-URL shortener), S.id (s dot id).

The FBI maintains an 83-page glossary of Internet slang. And it is hilariously, frighteningly out of touch.
Washingtonpost.com - The Internet is full of strange and bewildering neologisms, which anyone but a text-addled teen would struggle to understand. So the fine, taxpayer-funded people of the FBI — apparently not content to trawl Urban Dictionary, like the rest of us — compiled a glossary of Internet slang.
An 83-page glossary. Containing nearly 3,000 terms.
The glossary was recently made public through a Freedom of Information request by the group MuckRock, which posted the PDF, called “Twitter shorthand,” online. Despite its name, this isn’t just Twitter slang: As the FBI’s Intelligence Research Support Unit explains in the introduction, it’s a primer on shorthand used across the Internet, including in “instant messages, Facebook and Myspace.” As if that Myspace reference wasn’t proof enough that the FBI’s a tad out of touch, the IRSU then promises the list will prove useful both professionally and “for keeping up with your children and/or grandchildren.” (Your tax dollars at work!)
All of these minor gaffes could be forgiven, however, if the glossary itself was actually good. Obviously, FBI operatives and researchers need to understand Internet slang — the Internet is, increasingly, where crime goes down these days. But then we get things like ALOTBSOL (“always look on the bright side of life”) and AMOG (“alpha male of group”) … within the first 10 entries.
ALOTBSOL has, for the record, been tweeted fewer than 500 times in the entire eight-year history of Twitter. AMOG has been tweeted far more often, but usually in Spanish … as a misspelling, it would appear, of “amor” and “amigo.”
Among the other head-scratching terms the FBI considers can’t-miss Internet slang:

AYFKMWTS (“are you f—— kidding me with this s—?”) — 990 tweets
BFFLTDDUP (“best friends for life until death do us part) — 414 tweets
BOGSAT (“bunch of guys sitting around talking”) — 144 tweets
BTDTGTTSAWIO (“been there, done that, got the T-shirt and wore it out”) — 47 tweets
BTWITIAILWY (“by the way, I think I am in love with you”) — 535 tweets
DILLIGAD (“does it look like I give a damn?”) — 289 tweets
DITYID (“did I tell you I’m depressed?”) — 69 tweets
E2EG (“ear-to-ear grin”) — 125 tweets
GIWIST (“gee, I wish I said that”) — 56 tweets
HCDAJFU (“he could do a job for us”) — 25 tweets
IAWTCSM (“I agree with this comment so much”) — 20 tweets
IITYWIMWYBMAD (“if I tell you what it means will you buy me a drink?”) — 250 tweets
LLTA (“lots and lots of thunderous applause”) — 855 tweets
NIFOC (“naked in front of computer”) — 1,065 tweets, most of them referring to acronym guides like this one.
PMYMHMMFSWGAD (“pardon me, you must have mistaken me for someone who gives a damn”) — 128 tweets
SOMSW (“someone over my shoulder watching) — 170 tweets
WAPCE (“women are pure concentrated evil”) — 233 tweets, few relating to women
YKWRGMG (“you know what really grinds my gears?”) — 1,204 tweets
In all fairness to the FBI, they do get some things right: “crunk” is helpfully defined as “crazy and drunk,” FF is “a recommendation to follow someone referenced in the tweet,” and a whole range of online patois is translated to its proper English equivalent: hafta is “have to,” ima is “I’m going to,” kewt is “cute.”
One would hope the people tasked with investigating federal crimes could decipher that kind of thing through context clues … but the Internet is a vast, dizzying place! And both the law and law enforcement, as many, many recent cases have attested, lag painfully behind technology and technology culture — to the detriment of people in those spaces who need help.
So while I might wanna (want to) LMSO (laugh my socks off) over this glossary, it’s actually kind of serious, when you TOTT (think on these things).

5 Tahun Bing Kejar Google Tanpa Hasil

Koleksi Foto "Getty Images" Kini Digratiskan
Getty menerapkan sistem sharing foto berbasis kode embed.

Gratis, Office Online Siap Saingi Google Drive

Netflix Tests $7 Per Month Streaming Video Plan
Cnn.com - Netflix is testing a streaming video plan that lets subscribers save a buck every month in exchange for a couple sacrifices.
The $7 per month plan, discovered by AdWeek, lets users stream one video at a time in standard definition only. But right now, it’s only available to a small number of new subscribers. “Not all people will see this option and it may not be something we ever offer generally,” a Netflix spokeswoman told AdWeek.
Netflix’s regular $8 per month plan allows up to two streams at once on a single account, and supports high definition video as well. The company also offers a family plan for $12 per month, allowing up to four streams at once.
Aside from that family plan, which arrived in April, Netflix hasn’t touched its pricing since 2011, when the company split mail-order DVD rentals into a separate $8 per month service. (The DVD service was originally going to be spun off into a new company called Qwikster, but Netflix quickly backtracked on that idea.)
Some analysts have called for Netflix to offer a higher-priced streaming tier with premium content, but CEO Reed Hastings said last year that “we’re a long way from that.”

Malware Bisa Kirim Data Curian Tanpa Internet

Ecosia, Mesin Pencari Paling Ramah Lingkungan

China achieves wireless Internet access via lightbulbs
Zdnet.com - Chinese scientists have made headway with successful experiments using Li-Fi technology, where wireless signals are sent by lightbulbs, according to Xinhua News.
Four computers under a one-watt LED lightbulb may connect to the Internet under the principle that light can be used as a carrier instead of traditional radio frequencies, said Chi Nan, an IT professor at Shanghai's Fudan University.
She explained a lightbulb with embedded microchips can produce data rates as fast as 150 Mbps, much higher than the average broadband connection in China.
Current wireless signal transmission equipment is expensive and low in efficiency, noted Chi in the article. "As for cell phones, millions of base stations have been established around the world to strengthen the signal but most of the energy is consumed on their cooling systems," she explained, but noted the energy utilization rate was only 5 percent."
However, Chi noted there was still a long way to go in making Li-Fi commercially successful. "If the light is blocked, then the signal will be cut off," she explained. The professor added the development of key related technologies were still in the experimental phase, such as light communication controls, microchip design and manufacturing.
The term Li-Fi was coined as early as 2011 by Harald Haas, a professor of engineering at Edinburgh University, with the name standing for "light-fidelity". The technology made use of LED bulbs that glow and darken faster than the human eye can see, and LED lights being semiconductors could be programmable.
Haas had suggested that the applications and capacity for data would be limitless, ranging from using car headlights to transmit data, or employing line of sight light sources as data transmitters.

JustDelete.me helps you wash away your digital life
Foxnews.com - Deleting your unused or unwanted online accounts can be a giant pain – and, in some cases, is literally impossible. But a new Web directory, JustDelete.me, makes the process a little less daunting.
Launched last week by developer Robb Lewis and designed by Ed Poole, JustDelete.me provides a growing list of Internet-connected services, with links and information about the account deletion process. When available, direct links to account delete pages are provided. JustDelete.me also categorizes each service into "easy," "medium," "hard," and "impossible," depending on the difficulty of deleting an account from that service. The site also provides tidbits of information about account deletion for each service.
Google and Instagram, for example, both land in the "easy" category, since these companies only require that users login and opt to delete their accounts. Amazon, on the other hand, gets a "hard" tag due to the fact that you have to send an email to the company requesting to have your account deleted; JustDelete.me links directly to Amazon’s appropriate contact form for doing so.
Other services, like Craigslist and Evernote, land in the “impossible” category. Evernote only allows users to temporarily deactivate their accounts, notes JustDelete.me, while Craigslist offers no way for users to delete accounts, "not even by contacting support."
In a post on his blog, Lewis says he came up with the idea for JustDelete.me after hearing how difficult it is to delete a Skype or Netflix account.
JustDelete.me went live on August 19, with 16 services in its directory. The list has since grown to nearly 130 services, at the time of this writing. And fellow Web developer Mike Rogers created a Google Chrome extension to make the account deletion process even easier.
Poole says he believes the booming popularity JustDelete.me has received – more than 500,000 page views in its first week – stems from growing discontent with Internet-connected services, in light of the recent revelations about NSA surveillance. The "honeymoon period" for the Web, says Poole, has ended.
"Five years ago, when things like Facebook and MySpace were still in their infancy, people didn’t see the harm in sharing their personal information," said Poole in an email to Digital Trends. "Recently, with the drama surrounding the NSA and stories of large companies selling personal information, I think the public has realized we can’t just put anything online, as nobody really knows what information is 'safe' anymore."
According to Poole, the creation of JustDelete.me has simply "emphasized how much online privacy and security is in the public consciousness."

NSA program reportedly allows analysts to track emails, chats, web searches
Foxnews.com - The National Security Agency is operating a massive database system that allows analysts to scour individuals' emails, chats and Internet browsing histories at will, according to a new report from The Guardian based on leaked documents.
The article was quickly challenged by the NSA. In a statement forwarded to Fox News, the agency said "allegations of widespread, unchecked analyst access to NSA collection data are simply not true."
The agency acknowledged the existence of the program -- called XKeyscore -- but said access is limited and suggested it was mainly aimed at foreign intelligence targets.
The Guardian article described it differently. According to the piece, the XKeyscore program is the "widest-reaching" system the agency has and allows analysts without prior authorization to dig around the database by filling out an on-screen form giving a basic justification.
According to the report, the program covers "nearly everything a typical user does on the internet" including emails and websites visited. It also reportedly allows analysts to intercept Internet activity in "real time."
The Guardian report seems to make a distinction between what is technically possible under this program and what is legally allowed. It notes that U.S. law requires the NSA to get a warrant if the target is a U.S. individual -- but says the XKeyscore program provides "the technological capability, if not the legal authority" to go after Americans without a warrant as long as an analyst knows information like an email or IP address.
The NSA, in its statement, pushed back on these assertions.
"The implication that NSA's collection is arbitrary and unconstrained is false," the agency said. "NSA's activities are focused and specifically deployed against -- and only against -- legitimate foreign intelligence targets in response to requirements that our leaders need for information necessary to protect our nation and its interests."
The agency said those with access to the system are trained on their "ethical and legal obligations." The agency complained that the ongoing leaks continue to jeopardize security.
The statement said the programs as a whole have helped defend the nation, and that as of 2008, "there were over 300 terrorists captured using intelligence generated from XKEYSCORE."
The report was based on documents by NSA leaker Edward Snowden, who continues to evade capture by the U.S.
Journalist Glenn Greenwald, who wrote the Guardian article, had claimed over the weekend that he had evidence to back up Snowden's past claims that low-level workers and other officials could tap into almost anyone's communications.
The report comes after several intelligence officials testified Wednesday on Capitol Hill about the surveillance programs, defending them as vital to national security.
President Obama also told Democratic lawmakers on Wednesday that he's open to some changes in NSA programs, according to those present at the meeting.
Meanwhile, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence declassified a set of documents on Wednesday that begin to shed light on the authorization and rules behind the agency's phone and Internet record collection.
The documents stress that these programs allow the government to collect basic information about phone calls and email communications, but not the content of those messages. They say most of the information "is never reviewed," while describing the programs as vital to the "early warning system" for detecting terror plots.

Pensiun dari MK, Mahfud MD Luncurkan e-keadilan.com
Detik.com - Mantan Ketua Mahkamah Konstitusi (MK) Mahfud MD bersama Menristek Gusti M Hatta meluncurkan e-keadilan.com.
Usai memberikan sambutannya, Mahfud kemudian bersama Menristek berpegangan menggenggam palu hakim.
