iOS 9 Bisa untuk iPhone dan iPad Lawas
Kompas.com - Apple resmi merilis iOS 9 di ajang Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) 2015 yang berlangsung di San Francisco, Senin (8/6/2015) waktu setempat.
Meski hadir dengan berbagai fitur baru yang cukup memberatkan sistem, iOS 9 nantinya masih bisa berjalan di perangkat lawas Apple.
Seperti KompasTekno kutip dari The Verge, Selasa (9/6/2015), iOS 9 nantinya bisa dipasangkan mulai dari iPhone 4s dan iPad 2. Keduanya diperkenalkan oleh Apple pada tahun 2011 silam. Tentunya, perangkat lebih baru dari itu juga bisa menggunakan iOS 9 itu.
Sebelumnya, memang tersebar kabar yang menyatakan bahwa Apple bakal tetap mendukung perangkat lawas. Hal tersebut dapat diraih dengan cara mengoptimalkan fitur yang ada dengan spesifikasi hardware dari tiap perangkat.
Tidak tampilan yang benar-benar baru dari iOS 8, iOS 9 hadir dengan berbagai fitur baru.
Salah satu yang paling menarik perhatian adalah peningkatan kemampuan dari asisten virtual Siri. Fitur baru yang dinamakan Proactive membuat Siri semakin mirip dengan Google Now, produk serupa buatan Google.
Siri kini dapat memprediksi waktu dan jarak lokasi tempat yang ingin dituju pengguna berdasarkan informasi lalu lintas yang ada.
Satu fitur canggih lainnya, Siri dapat memindai e-mail yang ada dalam perangkat sehingga mampu memberikan prediksi ketika ada telepon masuk dari orang tidak dikenal.
iOS 9 juga hadir dengan berbagai peningkatan fitur untuk aplikasi Notes, Apple Maps, Apple Pay, dan kemampuan multitasking side-by-side di perangkat iPad.
Seperti biasanya, Apple baru akan merilis iOS 9 untuk developer terlebih dahulu untuk uji coba pada bulan Juli. Versi final akan dirilis beberapa bulan setelahnya untuk perangkat iPad 2 atau lebih baru, dan iPhone 4s ke atas.

Yuk, Coba Taklukkan TTS "Kompas" di Android dan iPhone
Kompas.com - Teka-teki silang (TTS) harian Kompas yang disisipkan tiap edisi Minggu selalu menantang pembaca untuk mengasah otak dalam mengisi soal-soalnya.
Kini, pengguna gadget Android dan iOS bisa menjajal kemampuan mengisi TTS Kompas setiap saat lewat aplikasi mobile game yang tersedia di toko Google Play dan App Store.
Mobile game TTS Kompas yang dikembangkan dalam native environment untuk masing-masing platform ini dapat dimainkan di smartphone maupun tablet, sesuai dengan keinginan dan kenyamanan pengguna.
Setelah mengunduh game TTS Kompas, pengguna dipersilakan membuat akun Kompas ID agar dapat memamerkan prestasi skor yang diraih di leader board. Hal tersebut juga akan menciptakan persaingan di antara pemain.
Akun Kompas ID sekaligus membuka akses ke soal premium dan soal berhadiah yang dihadirkan sesuai program dari harian Kompas. Pemain bisa juga mengisi TTS dalam mode offline setelah soal selesai diunduh.
Dalam menyelesaikan soal TTS, ada dua tipe bermain yang tersedia. Tipe permainan "hitung waktu" akan mencatat lamanya waktu yang dibutuhkan pemain dalam menyelesaikan semua soal dengan benar.
Tipe permainan kedua adalah "tanpa waktu" yang memungkinkan pengguna bermain lebih santai dan tidak dikejar target.
Beberapa fitur yang dapat membantu pemain menyelesaikan soal turut disediakan. Fitur "Hint", misalnya, dapat memberi petunjuk tambahan atas sebuah jawaban, sementara "Cek Jawaban" dipakai untuk memastikan kebenaran jawaban.
Selain di platform Android dan iOS, game TTS Kompas tersedia untuk pengguna perangkat Windows Phone lewat toko aplikasi Windows Store.

AppleSIM Si Kartu Sapu Jagat
Detik.com - Di balik hingar-bingar peluncuran iPad Air 2 dan iPad Mini 3, ternyata ada produk lainnya yang dirilis Apple yakni sebuah kartu SIM yang diperkenalkannya sebagai AppleSIM. Apa bedanya dengan kartu SIM lain?
Bila kartu SIM pada umumnya hanya mewaikili satu operator seluler dan satu nomor telepon, AppleSIM punya kemampuan menarik, yakni bisa berjalan di berbagai layanan operator seluler dengan nomor telepon yang tentunya juga berbeda-beda.
AppleSIM disebut sebagai jawaban Apple atas kerepotan pengguna yang kerap mengganti-ganti kartu bila ingin bertukar layanan seluler. Memang belum dijelaskan lebih jauh cara kerjanya, namun bisa dibilang dengan menggunakan AppleSIM pengguna bisa mendaftarkan beberapa nomor teleponnya dri berbagai operator seluler dalam satu kartu SIM tersebut.
Adapun cara pengguna memilih-milih nomor telepon dan layanan seluler yang diinginkan dapat dilakukan melalui sebuah software yang bakal terinstal di iOS pada iPad Air 2 dan iPad Mini 3. Apple pun mengklaim AppleSIM bakal sangat membantu bagi pengguna yang hobi travel dan kerap berganti-ganti kartu SIM.
Sayangnya, seperti detkINET kutip dari The Register, Jumat (17/10/2014), AppleSIM baru mendukung penggunaannya di wilayah Amerika Serikat dan Inggris. Sepertinya Apple memang baru bekerjasama dengan operator di kedua negara tersebut.
Namun sangat mungkin ke depannya AppleSIM juga bisa digunakan di negara lainnya. Setidaknya dimulai dari negara-negara yang dianggap Tier 1 oleh Apple.

Apple Segera Keluarkan iPhone 5C Versi Murah
Kompas.com - Belakangan banyak beredar berita yang menyebutkan bahwa iPhone 5C dari Apple terbilang kurang laku. Salah satu penyebabnya, iPhone versi "murah" itu disebut masih relatif mahal dibanding tawaran lain di pasar. Bahkan CEO Apple Tim Cook mengakui bahwa penjualan iPhone 5S lebih tinggi dibanding iPhone 5C.
Mungkin karena itu, Apple dikabarkan bakal segera merilis iPhone 5C dengan memori internal 8 GB. Varian ini, sebagaimana dikutip dari Engadget, akan dihargai lebih murah hingga 60 Euro (Rp 790.000) dibandingkan model iPhone 5C 16GB.
iPhone 5C 8GB disinyalir akan tersedia dalam berbagai pilihan warna, sama dengan saudaranya yang memiliki kapasitas memori internal lebih lebih besar. Apple dipediksi bakal mengumumkan kehadiran perangkat tersebut minggu ini.

Desain-desain produknya selalu membuat kita tercengang saat pertama kali diperkenalkan dan disukai banyak orang setelahnya. Salah satunya adalah komputer Macintosh. Semenjak pertama kali kemunculan komputer Mac, Steve Jobs seperti merevolusi bentuk komputer pribadi.
Perubahan itu tetap berlangsung hingga kini, setelah 30 tahun komputer Mac diperkenalkan. Desain komputer Mac dari tahun ke tahun selalu berubah. Walau kini saat kita melihat desain komputer Apple di tahun 80-an terlihat jadul, namun pada masanya, komputer Mac selalu tampil beda dan menarik perhatian.

Butuh waktu tiga tahun dan biaya 50 juta dollar AS dalam pengembangannya. Di masanya, Lisa dijual seharga hampir 10.000 dollar AS, atau setara 25.000 dollar AS untuk ukuran masa kini.
2. Macintosh XL
Lisa kemudian didesain ulang pada tahun 1985, untuk mendongkrak penjualannya. Apple kemudian menamainya dengan Macintosh XL, dan membanderol harga 3,495 dollar AS untuk tiap unitnya.

3. Macintosh 128K
Macintosh 128K menjadi PC Macintosh sejati yang pertama. Dibuat pada 1984, Apple menjualnya dengan harga 2,495 dollar AS. Macintosh 128K memiliki layar berukuran 9 inci, RAM 128K, dan aksesibilitas yang saat itu diklaim lebih mudah.
Diluncurkan setelah versi 128, Macintosh 512K pada dasarnya memiliki spesifikasi yang sama, hanya memiliki jumlah memori yang empat kali lebih besar.
Macintosh Plus muncul pertama kali pada 1986. Komputer ini memiliki spesifikasi RAM 1 MB, port SCSI yang bisa digunakan untuk memasang hard disk eksternal. Saat itu, Macintosh Plus dijual dengan harga 2.599 dollar AS
Saat diperkenalkan pada tahun 1989, Macintoshh Portable menjadi Mac pertama yang menggunakan sumber daya dari baterai. Saat itu, komputer dengan bobot sekitar 7 kg ini menjadi yang tercepat dengan bekerja pada clock 16 MHz. Namun, walau portable dan kencang, penjualan Macintosh Portable tidak terlalu sukses.
Belajar dari Macintosh Plus yang kurang sukses, Apple kemudian memperkenalkan komputer Powerbook. Produk Apple yang satu ini disebut sebagai komputer portabel sejati yang pertama karena lebih ringan. Powerbook memiliki unit floppy disk yang benar-benar terpisah. Lini produk ini sangat sukses dan dipertahankakn hingga tahun 2006.
Warna-warni, itulah kesan pertama jika mengingat iMac. Diperkenalkan pertama kali pada 1998, iMac menjadi proyek besar Apple setelah Steve Jobs kembali menjabat sebagai CEO. iMac memiliki pendekatan desain yang lebih bergaya dibanding para pendahulunya. Floppy disk sudah ditanggalkan dan Apple menggantinya dengan port USB.
iMac G4 tampil memukau dengan desain yang fleksibel dan bentuknya yang rata. Karena bentuk penyangganya yang kecil, layar G4 bisa ditarik ke depan dan diputar. Produk ini diperkenalkan pada tahun 2002 dan membuat banyak orang terpana saat pertama kali diperkenalkan oleh Steve Jobs.
Lini MacBook baru Apple diperkenalkan pada tahun 2006. Apple melengkapinya dengan webcam “iSight,” LCD dengan resolusi tajam dan layar glossy, serta keyboard yang terintegrasi.
MacBook Air hadir di masa modern Apple. Laptop ini menjadi buah karya Apple yang paling ramping dan dijuluki sebagai komputer jinjing tertipis di dunia, berkat dihilangkannya drive CD/DVD. Steve Jobs memperkenalkan MacBook Air pada 2008 dan hingga kini Apple terus melanjutkan proyek MacBook dengan model-model yang lebih update. MacBook Air pertama memiliki hard disk 80 GB dan layar LED.
Kini, di usianya yang menginjak 30 tahun, iMac semakin tipis dan lebar dibanding model-model sebelumnya. iMac produksi terbaru memiliki fitur layar yang tajam serta mouse dan keyboard yang terpisah. Versi 27 inci-nya mengususng prosesor Intel yang kencang dan penyimpanan data Fusion Drive yang mengombinasikan penyimpanan hard disk dan flash.

Apple Says It Isn't Interested in Your Data: Here's What Apple Does and Doesn't Know About You
Vice.com - Tucked inside Apple's first-ever transparency report, published yesterday, was a not-so-subtle dig at the tech giant's competitors. "Our business does not depend on collecting personal data," Apple wrote. "We have no interest in amassing personal information about our customers."
It's no secret that for social web companies like Google or Facebook, collecting, storing, and analyzing data about every aspect of your life translates into cold, hard cash—the more sensitive and personal, the better. But in the emerging post-NSA new world order, the unwritten privacy-for-cool services agreement that drives the internet ecosystem is making netizens increasingly uneasy.
So in its report on the number requests for information it gets from government agencies, Apple took the opportunity to go on the offensive and remind its customers that it doesn't know as much about you as some others do. To a certain extent that's true. But it doesn't mean Apple doesn't collect personal data on its users. It sure does—a lot.
I went looking for the devil in the details to parse just how much Apple knows about you, and to what extent the company really does protect user privacy.
I'll start with the good news. Shortly after the details of the NSA's Prism program were leaked, Apple published a privacy statement explaining the user information it can't retrieve for the authorities, either because they're encrypted or not stored on the company's servers. It reminded users of this again in yesterday's report: "We protect personal conversations by providing end-to-end encryption over iMessage and FaceTime. We do not store location data, Maps searches, or Siri requests in any identifiable form."
So what information does it have? Apple's privacy policy breaks it down into two categories. Obviously, the company knows your name, address, email, and credit card information, and so forth. It uses that personal information "for internal purposes such as auditing, data analysis, and research to improve Apple’s products, services, and customer communications" and "to help us develop, deliver, and improve our products, services, content, and advertising."
Things get more interesting with the second category: "non-personal" information, which is any user data that isn't associated with a specific individual. We're talking about details like customers' jobs, real-time location, habits, and the like. That data, the company says, is collected anonymously. Apple has free reign to share, sell, or store it however it damn pleases.
Apple also, like all internet companies, relies on cookies to track user activity. It knows your shopping habits in the Apple Store and where you go when surfing the web in the Safari browser, and uses that insight for advertising and marketing.
Then there's Siri. The company stated that it doesn't store Siri communications in an "identifiable form." But what's happening behind the scenes when you use the voice recognition feature comes awfully close to being a tell-all about your private life. Per the company's user agreement:

When you use Siri or Dictation, the things you say will be recorded and sent to Apple in order to convert what you say into text and, for Siri, to also process your requests. Your device will also send Apple other information, such as your first name and nickname; the names, nicknames, and relationship with you (e.g., “my dad”) of your address book contacts; and song names in your collection (collectively, your “User Data”). To sum it up, Apple gathers up about as much personal information on users as any other big tech company. The main difference is, it says it doesn't connect the dots. It may know everything about you, but it doesn't know you're you.
It might, however, know where you are. The most controversial part of Apple's data collection practices is real-time location tracking. There was a big to-do made about iPhone location tracking a couple years ago, when it was revealed that Apple collects and stores as much as 12 years worth of user geodata on its devices, unencrypted. That can, and was, hacked into and accessed and used to create this very creepy map of exactly where your iPhone is in real-time.
Smartphones are regularly transmitting user locations back to Apple, which is amassing a database of anonymous location data. Google's Android does this too. Apple addressed privacy concerns by assuring users the data is encrypted when it's sent to the company, so Apple doesn't actually know where you, specifically, are at all points in time.
But concerns about location tracking haven't entirely gone away, and now it seems the company is doubling down on real-time GPS information with a mind to future product features. Yesterday, the company was awarded a patent for a technology that "can adaptively track a user's location and use the data to intelligently control secondary devices at another locale, such as home appliances," Apple Insider reported.
Apple—like other tech firms—wants to build a home automation system to connect the growing plethora of smart objects lying around the house. According to the patent, its idea is to take the user out of the process and have it all center around a "first device" that sends back specific details about your real-time location and habits to automatically control the other devices.

Boston University sues Apple over 1997 patent, asks for ban on iPhone sales

The powers that be at Boston University want a federal court to ban the sale of a wide range of Apple products — including the iPhone 5, the iPad and the MacBook Air — because they allegedly infringe a patent issued to one of its professors in 1997.
In a complaint filed this week in the Massachusetts federal court, the trustees of BU say the Apple products contain a “gallium nitride thin film semiconductor device” that is still under patent protection. Professor Theodore Moustakas applied for the patent in 1995, which means it is set to expire in 2015. Boston University is not only seeking an injunction banning the sale of a wide range of Apple products, but is also asking for an accounting of Apple’s profits — meaning the school wants Apple to hand over its earnings from the last few years. If that happens, lucky BU students can expect free tuition and gold-plated water fountains (which would presumably make up for the absence of new Apple gear).
More realistically, Apple will attack the patent or else settle quietly. The episode is likely to raise the question, yet again, of how well the patent system, and the 20 year monopolies it awards, are serving America’s digital economy. In this case, some may wonder why it took BU so long to commence their gold-mining expedition.

Apple Said to Start IPhone Trade-In Program in Stores
Bloomberg.com - Apple Inc. is starting an iPhone trade-in program this month aimed at getting users to upgrade to the iPhone 5 and turn in older models, people with knowledge of the plans said.
Apple has teamed up with Brightstar Corp. a mobile-phone distributor, to run the exchange program, said the people, who asked not to be identified because Apple hasn’t publicly announced the plan.
Brightstar also handles trade-ins for AT&T Inc. (T) and T-Mobile US Inc. (TMUS), as well as other carriers and device makers, amid brisk demand for refurbished iPhone 4s and 4Ss in emerging markets. By offering money for older smartphones, Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook is seeking to entice consumers to upgrade to the latest models, part of the company’s efforts to reignite sales growth and combat declining shares.
“This will help them sell more phones, because it will lower the consumer’s out-of-pocket expense,” said Roger Entner, an analyst at Recon Analytics LLC in Dedham, Massachusetts.
Amy Bessette, a spokeswoman for Cupertino, California-based Apple, and Patrick Foarde, a Brightstar spokesman who works for Ketchum Inc., declined to comment.
AT&T is currently paying as much as $200 for working iPhone 4s and 4Ss, which could let some customers buy an entry-level iPhone 5 for no money down. Ganot estimates that 20 percent of U.S. consumers buying a smartphone this year will do so using a trade-in, up from 11 percent in 2011.

Prediksi Terbaru Harga iPhone Murah
Kompas.com - Rumor tentang iPhone versi murah terus bergulir. Salah satu yang terbaru adalah, Apple kemungkinan bakal merilis perangkat iPhone versi murah seharga 350 hingga 400 dollar AS atau kurang dari Rp 4 juta.
Banderol iPhone berbahan plastik ini diprediksi oleh Brian White, analis dari Topeka Capital Markets. Prediksi tersebut dibuat setelah ia berbincang-bincang dengan perusahaan yang banyak bekerja sama dengan Apple. Perusahaan-perusahaan tersebut ia temui pada sebuah ajang pameran teknologi di China beberapa waktu lalu.
White berkomentar, harga dari iPhone -- yang untuk sementara disebut iPhone Mini -- tidak akan sangat murah.
Seperti diberitakan sebelumnya, iPhone murah ini diprediksi akan dijual seharga 330 dollar AS. Bahkan seorang analis, Gene Munster dari Piper Jaffray, mengatakan harganya bisa jadi hanya 199 dollar AS.
"Kami juga mempelajari harga dari perangkat ini mungkin akan sedikit lebih tinggi dari harapan kami, bisa saja mencapai 400 dollar AS. Sekarang, kami memproyeksi harga sekitar 350 hingga 400 dollar AS untuk "iPhone Mini" ini," kata White, seperti dikutip dari Cnet, Senin (15/4/2013).

Dua iPhone Baru Hadir Tengah Tahun?
Kompas.com - Apabila perkiraan analis yang satu ini terbukti benar, maka Apple akan meluncurkan dua model iPhone sekitar pertengahan tahun 2013.
Sebagaimana dikutip dari Cnet, perkiraan tersebut dirilis oleh analis KGI Securities Ming-Chi Kuo yang pernah membuat perkiraan soal rilis MacBook Pro 13 inci Retina Display dan dihentikannya lini MacBook Pro 17 inci dengan akurat.
Menurut dia, kedua model iphone itu adalah iPhone 5S dan iPhone 5 versi murah. iPhone 5S disebutnya bakal mengusung sejumlah peningkatan termasuk chip A7 yang lebih kencang serta sensor sidik jari, dan kamera f2.0 dengan smart LED Flash.
Akan halnya iPhone 5 versi murah, Kuo mensinyalir bahwa posel tersebut akan memiliki casing dari bahan plastik dan tersedia dalam enam pilihan warna, serta dijual dalam keadaan unlocked atau tidak dikunci operator dalam rentang harga 350-450 dollar AS atau Rp 3,3 hingga 4,2 juta.
Rumor tentang iPhone versi murah memang sudah santer terdengar sebelumnya, tapi kebanyakan menyebutkan bahwa perangkat ini akan dirilis pada akhir tahun, bukan pertengahan tahun seperti yang dilansir Kuo.
Lalu, bagaimana dengan penjualan iPhone 5 yangs sudah ada saat ini? Investor Apple belakangan khawatir perangkat tersebut kurang laku, tapi Kuo berpendapat bahwa angka penjualan di kuartal keempat 2012 akan melebihi ekspektasi.

Menurut dia, kedua model iphone itu adalah iPhone 5S dan iPhone 5 versi murah. iPhone 5S disebutnya bakal mengusung sejumlah peningkatan termasuk chip A7 yang lebih kencang serta sensor sidik jari, dan kamera f2.0 dengan smart LED Flash.
Akan halnya iPhone 5 versi murah, Kuo mensinyalir bahwa posel tersebut akan memiliki casing dari bahan plastik dan tersedia dalam enam pilihan warna, serta dijual dalam keadaan unlocked atau tidak dikunci operator dalam rentang harga 350-450 dollar AS atau Rp 3,3 hingga 4,2 juta.
Rumor tentang iPhone versi murah memang sudah santer terdengar sebelumnya, tapi kebanyakan menyebutkan bahwa perangkat ini akan dirilis pada akhir tahun, bukan pertengahan tahun seperti yang dilansir Kuo.
Lalu, bagaimana dengan penjualan iPhone 5 yangs sudah ada saat ini? Investor Apple belakangan khawatir perangkat tersebut kurang laku, tapi Kuo berpendapat bahwa angka penjualan di kuartal keempat 2012 akan melebihi ekspektasi.
Apakah perkiraan Kuo benar adanya? Hanya waktu yang bisa menjawab.
