Foxnews.com - Chrysler is killing the Town and Country minivan in 2014, according to a report in Automotive News.
Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne told the paper that the automaker will consolidate its minivan lineup under one nameplate, the Dodge Grand Caravan, and replace the Town and Country with a unique three-row crossover. With 90 percent of Chrysler Group dealers now offering cars from all of the company’s brands, it is the latest effort to remove model redundancy from their showrooms.
But where have we heard this story before?
In October of last year, Marchionne told the same paper that he was planning to do the complete opposite and kill the Grand Caravan at the expense of the Town and Country.
Apparently, things change quickly in today’s automotive industry.
Chrysler’s minivans have combined to be the best-sellers in the segment since the automaker created it in 1984, although each has been outsold individually at various times in recent years by the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey.
As of the end of April, the Grand Caravan was outselling the Town and Country 45,645 to 38,507 for 2012 with the Honda Odyssey holding strong in third place at 38,133.
